Sub Accounts

One of the things that have been asked once in a while is the ability to create sub-accounts under your own user.

The idea is that project owners/managers will be able to create accounts for their users/clients/customers in an adhoc fashion which saves the users/clients/customers some trouble from having to register for an xp-dev.com user themselves.

The current work flow:

  • Project manager (PM) registers on XP-Dev.com
  • PM creates a new project
  • PM mails, phones, etc tells the users about the new project that has been created
  • Users/Clients register for new accounts
  • Users/Clients mails, phones etc the PM to notify him of their newly created usernames
  • PM permissions these users

The proposed work flow:

  • Project manager (PM) registers on XP-Dev.com
  • PM creates a new project
  • PM permissions and creates sub-accounts (without providing a password)
  • System sends email invites with a unique confirmation code
  • Users/Clients visit that link and put in a password.

Under the new work flow, PMs will not be able to see/know the password of the sub-accounts.

Feedback

I’d appreciate any feedback on this. Will this work ? If it won’t work, what’s needed to improve it ?

Cheers!

Awesome – that’s such a simple workflow.

What if PM needs to have specific usernames ?

You’re right :) I personally don’t think PMs will need/want to have specific usernames.

(Was playing a bit devil’s advocate in my last comment)

I second the proposed work flow, as it is. This would be a fantastic addition.
